Developing a Successful Project
The development of a successful restoration project at
Mid River Wetland Restoration places emphasis on integrating the entire
restoration enhancement project to ensure long term success.
Key components provided by our re-vegetation staff
include: professional seeding, execution of bio-engineering techniques,
and planting and monitoring.
Our crew is available to custom seed collect in your
area and are trained in techniques to improve site conditions (weed
control barriers, raised planting, beds, bacterial inoculates,
fertilization, etc.) for enhanced plant response.
Typical Steps in an Integrated Program:
Step 1 - Consulting
- Outline the scope of the project with you, explore
the current situation and mutually determine the long range goals for
the project.
- Gather regional information/local site analysis by
using topography, hydrology, soils, vegetation maps and determine the
common native plant species for replanting within your project area.
- Develop an initial site design, using information
gained to develop an integrated first year implementation plan that
would include a conceptual plan as well as site specific
recommendation to guide implementation.
Step 2 - Propagation
- Seed Collection. We will gather seed from your
area to ensure that plants are genetically adapted to local
conditions.
- Plant Propagation. In the nursery facility at Forrest
Keeling Nursery we source identify all plants and propagate plants
using the RPM™ method so they are able to survive the most difficult
sites.
- Provide a contract growing service to produce plants
to fit your needs.
- Mycorrhizal inoculation of root tissues to enhance
survival at highly disturbed sites.
Step 3 - Re-vegetation Services
- Site Preparation. Prior to seeding or planting,
we can design and construct levees, planting beds, install water
control structure, develop a suitable seed bed, amend the soils,
fertilize and perform other necessary work.
- Seeding and Planting. We will seed grass and
forb species, plus plant all bottomland hardwoods. A Walk-Away
System will be developed that requires little to no future
maintenance.
- Supply genetically adapted native herbaceous and
woody planting stock.
- Provide annual monitoring, evaluations and guidance
for restoration as required for a clients project.
